The Stags’ second baseman hit .571 with four home runs last week.
After leading the hitting corps for the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ baseball team in last weekend’s series at North Florida, Mike Becchetti ’23 was selected as a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week. Becchetti batted .571 with four home runs in three games against the host Ospreys.
"It means the world to me," said Becchetti, who was also tabbed as MAAC Player of the Week. "As a young kid, I always dreamed of playing on the highest stage of Division I baseball, and to see all the hard work I've put in pay off feels incredible."
Becchetti posted a statline of .571/.625/.1.429 for the series. He recorded eight total hits – notching at least two in each of the three weekend contests – with four homers and seven runs scored. He capped the weekend with four hits, including a pair of round trippers, in Sunday’s series-ending win for the Stags.
On the season, Becchetti leads the MAAC in batting average (.419), hits (26) and runs (19), and shares the league lead in home runs (5) with teammate Charlie Pagliarini ’23. Becchetti’s 15 runs batted in are also second only to Pagliarini’s MAAC-leading 17.
As a team, the Stags lead the MAAC in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs, doubles, and home runs.
Becchetti and the Stags completed the southern portion of the non-conference schedule with a record of 7-7. Fairfield visits Fordham this weekend for a three-game series and travels to Central Connecticut next Wednesday before opening the home and MAAC portions of the slate with three games on Alumni Diamond against Siena, March 24-26.
