The senior has had a historic campaign at the plate for the first-place Stags.
In more than 70 years of baseball at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´, no Stag has hit more home runs than Charlie Pagliarini ’23. The senior third baseman launched the 36th home run of his career in Fairfield’s 10-9 win at UMass on Tuesday to become the Stags’ all-time home run leader. Pagliarini surpasses the 35 homers racked up by Tom Lopusznick ’00 in his Hall of Fame career.
Pagliarini’s record-breaking home run — a grand slam that broke a 3-3 tie in the win at UMass — was his 20th of the 2023 season, also a Fairfield record. Entering this weekend’s final regular season series, he has posted program records of 152 total bases and 80 runs batted in and is also among the leaders in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Last season, Pagliarini was an All-MAAC First Team honoree at third base, tying what was then the program record with 13 home runs despite missing a month of the season due to injury. He also started 43 games in Fairfield’s magical 2021 season that saw the Stags earn their first-ever national ranking and advance to an NCAA Regional Final in Austin, Texas.
Fairfield Baseball concludes the regular season this weekend, on campus at Alumni Diamond. The Stags hosted Iona for a doubleheader sweep on Thursday, to be followed by a single game vs. the Gaels at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The 2023 MAAC Championship begins on Wednesday, May 24 at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y. With at least two wins over the Gaels this weekend, the Stags have earned a bye to Thursday’s second round of the six-team tournament.
