Callan and Joe met through working together as New Student Leaders (NSLs) for orientation during their junior year. Nothing came of it at the time but they stayed in each other's orbit as Callan went to study abroad in South Africa (an unforgettable experience), and Joe hosted a French exchange student (an equally unforgettable experience). Their senior year living at the beach is when their romance truly took off, and the pair continued dating while Callan pursued her master’s and then moved to New York. After moving into a house together in Norwalk, CT, they made the first steps of building a family together by adopting Gus, a cat named after the first emperor of Rome. Joe proposed to Callan in May 2020 with a pandemic engagement - secretly turning their house into a fancy restaurant. In August 2021, Callan and Joe were married at Penfield Beach, the place that meant so much to them and was the start of so many stories.
